RYA DAY SKIPPER

Maximum 5 students to 1 instructor, and you will never be asked to share a cabin with a complete stranger.
Thessalia School of Sailing-Mediterranean RYA sailing courses
Required pre-course experience

Minimum age:  18

It is not possible to complete this course as a complete beginner. You will be expected to have completed the Day Skipper Theory course before joining us in Greece. It is assumed that you are proficient in the topics covered in the Competent Crew course and that you understand the basics of sailing, rope work, seamanship and have experienced at least 100 miles on a cruising yacht as an active crew member.

If you already have basic knowledge of sailing and wish to move up to the next level, the Day Skipper course will provide you with the experience required to skipper a yacht.

The RYA no longer distinguish between tidal and non-tidal sailing areas, so a certificate gained in Greece has the same value as one attained in the UK.

Learn to sail in the idyllic conditions of the eastern Mediterranean.

Thessalia School of Sailing runs the 5 day course from Sunday to Thursday, with Friday as a bonus day to practice your new skills. You will arrive in Volos on Saturday and spend the first night on the boat. We will arrive back in Volos on Friday lunchtime, leaving you free to travel home on Friday or Saturday.

Before joining us for the practical course, you will need to complete the RYA Day Skipper shorebased navigation course.

Our Day Skipper Combined course, covers both the practical and theory sections of this qualification.

Course content: Preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, meteorology, rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, victualling, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making, night cruising.
