Thessalia school of Sailing-RYA sailing schools in Greece
If you already have basic knowledge of sailing and wish to move up to the next level, the Day Skipper combined course will provide you with the experience required to skipper a yacht.

Thessalia School of Sailing runs the 5 day course from

Sunday to Thursday. You will arrive in Volos on Saturday

and spend the first night on the boat. We will arrive back

in Volos on Thursday evening, leaving you free to travel

home on Friday or Saturday. You can stay on the boat on

Thursday evening.

 

Before joining us for the practical course, you will need to

enrol in the online Day Skipper Theory course, delivered

by Navathome.com, an RYA-recognised training centre specialising in online training.

You have 6 months to complete the theory course, so you can begin learning the theory before coming to Greece, then after 5 days on the boat, you will have a wealth of experience, allowing you to complete the online course and take the theory exam online.

BECOME A DAY SKIPPER IN GREECE
Maximum 5 students to 1 instructor.
You will never be asked to share a cabin with a complete stranger.
Required pre-course experience

Minimum age:  16

Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

It is not possible to complete this course as a complete beginner. It is assumed that you are proficient in the topics covered in the Competent Crew course and that you understand the basics of sailing, rope work, seamanship and have experienced at least 100 miles on a cruising yacht as an active crew member.

Course content:

Shorebased section:

Charts and Publications, tidal awareness, anchoring, safety, buoyage, visual and electronic navigation, rules of the road, weather forecasts.

 

Practical section:

Preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, maintenance and repair work, engine checks, victualling, emergency situations, yacht handling under power, yacht handling under sail, passage making, night cruising.

Method of assessment: There are no exams for the practical section of this course. Your instructor will assess your progress throughout the course.

The navigation course includes an online examination.

 

Certificates awarded: RYA Day Skipper practical, RYA Day Skipper Shorebased.

Included in the price: Breakfast, lunch and 3 evening meals on board the yacht. You’ll get freshly laundered linen & towels, pillows, and bedding. Also included are fuel and mooring fees and the online theory course with assistance from a Yachtmaster Instructor.
